THUNDER

I have dreams of an ambulance ride

Eyes open, did they get there in time?

Now the lights are on and I know it's not true
But when did I last speak to you?

My hand shakes as I reach for the number

My lungs storm over and my heart beats thunder
When I'm there, what would I say?

I'll hope for better words on the way

I got my life in front of me, but I don't want to see the end

If you're not right beside me

Surely there's another page to read

I'm on my way to the seventh floor
I'm pounding on your door
I'm alive but I don't know what for
I don't know you anymore

You're a universe not yet discovered

You're a sunset of a thousand colors
There's some stories I've been dying to read
If you'd want to stay close to me
And I'll stay awake for as long as it takes
But now I speak just to fill the space
Maybe you don't need me much at all
And I'll all be is an unreturned call

You're an ocean, a seascape, a skyline, a summer
A memory, a shadow, you're the sun on the water
You're ashes, my blood, I should have said something sooner

What a treasure to hold your gaze

But what did you ever have to hide?
Run your race and I'll wander mine
You don't owe me a second of time
Live your life and I'll suffer mine

But I think your story needs a few more chapters
I'll sit on the steps and hold you after

You decide what's worth your time

When you decide what's worth your life

I don't know you, I don't know you
I don't know you anymore
